PLUS NeuroRehabilitation continues to set the standard in the brain injury rehabilitation field by featuring CAFÉ PLUS, a working coffee shop open to the public. Located adjacent to our Delran Day Program (at 8008 Route 130, Building C, Delran, NJ), CAFÉ PLUS is operated by PLUS NeuroRehabilitation clients alongside a cognitive therapist. The café is "grab and go" style, and offers a variety of coffees, teas, and other beverages, snacks, salads, sandwiches, ice cream, fruits, and bagels. The purpose of CAFÉ PLUS is to create employment opportunities for our clients as well as to help them re-enter the work force by assisting them in fine tuning their job-readiness skills. One of the biggest challenges for a person after a moderate to severe acquired brain injury is returning to meaningful employment. A very low percentage of these individuals are able to hold jobs for extended periods of time. While there are some government resources available for re-entry into the work force, often such agencies have a limited understanding of the strengths and limitations of people with brain injury. Supervised volunteer activities are another means of vocational re-entry, but many people with acquired brain injury, particularly those who had been gainfully employed before their injury, want to be paid for the work that they do after their injury. Frequently these individuals have very limited financial resources and they really need to be paid for their work. Among the most effective means of vocational re-entry is through employment opportunities established and run by brain injury rehabilitation facilities. For more than a decade, several community based brain injury programs have maintained successful small businesses, ranging from flower shops to paper shredding, solely for the purpose of providing employment for the people they serve. PLUS NeuroRehabilitation is proud to carry on this positive tradition with CAFÉ PLUS. To read an article in the Burlington County Times about our café, click here.
